D and I took the last Friday of 2012 off from work to go to Hampi with the rest of the family. I had only heard and studied about it in textbooks in school. The visit took my breathe away. We were audience to nature and ruins from centuries ago, all in one place. The ruins are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If history holds your interest even a little bit, this place will leave you spellbound!
We went by road and only three days to spare. So technically, with a day and a half in hand to go around, we could hardly do justice. Make sure to hire a guide. We had a very patient and knowledgeable Mr. Srinivas to take us through the sites. I have written about guides at tourist places before and I hold them in the highest regard.
The family was together after a long time. I would have been happy anywhere with the company I was with. But Hampi sure did it for me!
